Round 2 (59): Travis Jones, DL, UConn

‘Underrated’ best describes Travis Jones. He should be a first-rounder. Maybe he will end up being picked on Day 1. But many draft analysts have him falling to the second round in mocks. If Jones is somehow still available at No. 59, I might run up to the podium myself.

This tweet from NFL Network’s Ben Fennell sums it up perfectly.

Jones could end up being the best defensive tackle in the class. He’s that good.

“Jones is a big, powerful defensive tackle with surprising quickness,” wrote NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, ranking him 38th overall in the draft class.

He would immediately make the Packers’ defense better. Jones can start from Day 1 with his strong run-stopping and interior pass rush ability. A starting three of Jones, Kenny Clark, and Jarran Reed could be dominant. Dean Lowry is also coming off a career year.

There’s a good chance Green Bay misses out on Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt in the first round, but Jones could make just as big an impact.

Jones may be gone in the first round. He should be. But if the actual draft follows many mocks, Jones to Green Bay in the second round would be a dream scenario.
