Safeties (4)

Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Vernon Scott, Tariq Carpenter

The Packers have one less problem at safety with the team expected to pick up Darnell Savage’s fifth-year option, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

That prevents a scenario in which both Savage and Adrian Amos hit free agency at the same time in 2023.

Amos and Savage will enter the new season as the Packers’ starting safeties once again. For now, Vernon Scott looks to be the favorite for the number three spot.

Green Bay drafted Tariq Carpenter in the seventh round. Finding his best spot on defense will be important over the summer.

Interestingly, the Packers have him listed as a safety, not a linebacker, so we can assume that’s where they think he best fits.

One area he will definitely help is on special teams. The Packers desperately needed to fix their awful special teams unit this offseason. Carpenter is one of many additions in this draft class who will help on fourth down.

Like cornerback, depth is the only concern for the Packers at safety. They didn’t draft one of the top safeties like Dax Hill, Lewis Cine, or Jalen Pitre, instead waiting until the seventh round.

Maybe Green Bay will add a veteran safety over the summer.
