Inside linebackers (4)

De’Vondre Campbell, Quay Walker, Krys Barnes, Isaiah McDuffie

For many years, inside linebacker was the biggest weakness of the Packers’ defense. No longer.

Green Bay signed first-team All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell to a new five-year deal this offseason, then found him a tag-team partner in first-round pick Quay Walker.

This combination can be a special one in Joe Barry’s defense.

Campbell was one of the best defensive players in football last season. He made play after play both in run defense and in coverage. Walker is also excellent in coverage.

We should see the Packers keep two inside linebackers on the field more often this season, and Walker can play on all three downs.

As the number three inside linebacker, Krys Barnes provides great depth at the position. He played on around half of the Packers’ defensive snaps last season.

Isaiah McDuffie didn’t feature on defense as a rookie but did play plenty of special teams snaps. That will likely continue in his second season, given the talent the Packers have at inside linebacker.

Far too often in recent years, Green Bay’s run defense has struggled and teams have found success throwing in the middle of the field. With Campbell and Walker, the Packers now have a ton of talent at inside linebacker.
