ILB Quay Walker

You always want to see first-round picks making an instant impact. Quay Walker has been a regular in the starting defense and showing exactly what he can do.

Walker has been lining up in the base defense alongside De’Vondre Campbell, a sign that defensive coordinator Joe Barry plans to line up with two inside linebackers frequently. We haven’t seen that a whole lot in recent years due to the team’s lack of depth at the position.

But for that to work, Walker needed to play well at camp. So far, so good.

Walker can help the defense in every phase, both against the run and in coverage. He also gets the perfect mentor in Campbell, who was named a first-team All-Pro last season.

The fact Walker is already part of the starting defense says a lot. If the Packers didn’t think he was ready, Krys Barnes would likely be ahead of him on the depth chart, or the defense would have an extra defensive back on the field in his place.

Instead, the 22nd overall pick has been out there alongside Campbell.

A promising start to training camp for Walker, who can be an excellent addition to Green Bay’s defense this season.
