It's rumor season, and DK Metcalf's name has come up several times as a potential Green Bay Packers target.

One rumor noted that Green Bay could send its first-round pick and a wide receiver to Seattle in a trade for Metcalf. The Athletic's Matt Schneidman quickly shut that down.

It's understandable why the Packers could have interest in trading for Metcalf. He would give Jordan Love a proven, veteran wide receiver to target. Metcalf has the speed to hurt defenses deep, which the Packers will lack while Christian Watson recovers from a season-ending knee injury.

Green Bay has several potential options to upgrade its wide receiver room, including recently released Davante Adams. Would Adams have interest in a return? That's unclear, but it could make sense for both sides.

However, we may need to pump the brakes on a possible move for Metcalf.

Adam Schefter shuts down rumors of the Packers trading for DK Metcalf this offseason

Circumstances change, and anything can happen in the NFL, but it doesn't sound likely the Packers will trade for Metcalf any time soon. ESPN's Adam Schefter provided an emphatic update on his podcast.

"Has there been anything discussed to this point about a DK Metcalf trade to another team, like Green Bay? No. That has not come up. That has not been something that has gained any traction so far," said Schefter.

Could it eventually happen? Sure, but based on Schefter's reporting, there is no truth in rumors of the Packers negotiating with the Seahawks about a trade.

Well, there goes that dream.

It's not Brian Gutekunst's style to trade premium draft capital for a veteran player, and he may prefer to keep hold of his picks and upgrade the position via free agency or the draft. Texas' Matthew Golden is a name to watch if the Packers consider ending their first-round wide receiver drought.

It does seem like when, not if, the Packers add a wide receiver. The Packers' track record suggests they will select a wide receiver on Day 2 of the draft. In our hearts, we hope they find a way to bring Adams home.

Metcalf, however, is unlikely to be Green Bay-bound any time soon.
