Packers' Josh Jacobs finally ends a record-breaking drought vs. Texans
Two hundred and eleven.
That's how many career receptions Josh Jacobs had without a touchdown catch. It set an unwanted NFL record, beating Gerald Riggs' 201 receptions without finding the end zone (Riggs hasn't played since 1991).
Finally, Jacobs has ended the drought. He caught the first touchdown catch of his NFL career for the Green Bay Packers against the Houston Texans, and it came at a crucial time. Green Bay had kept getting in its own way in the first half, but after leaning on Jacobs and the ground game to kick off the third quarter, Jordan Love found his running back again for a touchdown catch.
Oh, it's beautiful and well-deserved.
Josh Jacobs finally catches the first touchdown of his NFL career
In the offseason, Love promised Jacobs he would end his touchdown-catch-less drought. While it came later than they hoped, as Jacobs broke the NFL record, they have finally made it happen. Matt LaFleur uses his running backs in the receiving game, and it was only a matter of time before he took one into the end zone.
Jacobs enjoyed a Lambeau Leap and was embraced by Packers fans. It was a different story for Texans running back Joe Mixon when he attempted a Lambeau Leap earlier in the game. Fans weren't as welcoming.
Leaning on Jacobs is the way to go. At the time of writing, he has 11 carries for 77 yards and four catches for 15 yards and a touchdown. The Packers have made costly mistakes throughout the game, especially on special teams, so handing the ball to Jacobs is a winning recipe.
The hope is that Green Bay can overcome the mistakes to get past Houston for the win. Getting the ball in Jacobs' hands is one way to make it happen.
Let's make sure he doesn't have to wait another 211 catches for his next receiving touchdown.
