Packers may get a dose of nightmare fuel at the trade deadline

Yeah, this wouldn't be fun to see.

Four weeks in, and the NFC North isn't exactly how the Green Bay Packers probably planned it out to look. After a bizarre and disappointing tie, the Packers are left with a weird taste in their mouth.

And now that we're into October, it is officially time to start talking about the trade deadline which happens November 5. In a recent column done by Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame, he highlighted trades each team should make. Other than the Packers' proposed deal which would bring them Chris Olave, fans should keep an eye out for another logical move that might flip the division.

Verderame proposed that the Chicago Bears reach out to the Tennessee Titans about defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and beef up their defensive line.

"The Bears are all in with Caleb Williams and coach Ben Johnson. There’s no turning back, so they might as well make a splash move like this one," Verderame wrote.

Jeffery Simmons to the Bears would be exactly what Packers fans wouldn't want to see

Look, we are used to laughing at the Bears. It's nothing new. Each year, Bears fans think they're on to something bigger and better, and each year, they are sorely disappointed. But this year, under Ben Johnson, the Bears might just be trending upward.

Not that the Packers necessarily have anything to worry about right now, but looking at Chicago's weak spots, this is certainly a trade that would address a big one. The Bears cannot stop the run and their defensive line has been gashed over and over again through the early goings.

Simmons and the Titans are likely headed towards a parting of ways with where that franchise is at. Tennessee is fully into a rebuild mode with Cam Ward as their future, and Simmons is 28 years old in his seventh season with the team.

As one of the more underrated interior defensive linemen in the league, Simmons would bring the edge that Bears defense has lacked. Packers fans shouldn't forget that Chicago has been down some key defensive starters, as well. Once a couple of them get healthy, that unit should be much-improved.

Simmons would only further that improvement. We're looking at a player who finished as the sixth-best graded defensive lineman in the pass rush department, for all of 2024, courtesy of Pro Football Focus. For good measure, he finished 14th in the run defense department as well.

If Simmons went to Chicago (and that's a legitimate possibility, considering the Bears are no stranger to making deals before the deadline) then the Packers might have a real reason to start paying attention.
