NFC North power rankings entering Week 2: Packers plummet after Jordan Love injury
The best quarterback in the NFC North in Week 1? Sam Darnold. Who saw that coming?
Jordan Love had an up-and-down performance before suffering a sprained MCL in the Green Bay Packers' loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Caleb Williams disappointed in his NFL debut, while Jared Goff did just enough on Sunday Night Football.
The Packers fell a game behind all three division rivals, but their biggest concern is Love's health.
Victories for the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings shake up the NFC North power rankings entering Week 2.
NFC North power rankings: Packers in trouble with Jordan Love out of action
4. Green Bay Packers (0-1)
The Packers are in trouble. With Jordan Love likely out for at least three weeks, Matt LaFleur's team must find a way, somehow, to pick up a win or two. Even if Love only misses three games, the Packers can't afford to go into their Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams at 0-4. It would give them little margin for error the rest of the way.
Unless they sign Ryan Tannehill or another veteran in the coming days, Malik Willis will lead the offense in Love's absence.
Although Love's injury isn't significant, the Packers' playoff hopes are in jeopardy, considering the uncertainty at the backup quarterback position.
3. Chicago Bears (1-0)
The Bears began their new era with a win, but not in the way many would've imagined. Chicago relied on defensive and special teams touchdowns to overcome a 17-point deficit in what was otherwise an NFL debut to forget for first-overall pick Caleb Williams.
Former Packers safety Jonathan Owens has one Bears touchdown, and Williams has zero, just as everyone predicted.
Williams completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes for 93 yards, earning a 55.7 rating. The only way is up, and the Bears' defense showed promising signs, but Williams' debut wasn't particularly inspiring.
2. Minnesota Vikings (1-0)
Sam Darnold couldn't have dreamed of a better Vikings debut, completing 79.2 percent of his passes for 208 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against the New York Giants.
Former Packers running back Aaron Jones looked as good as ever, totaling 109 yards from scrimmage with one touchdown. Minnesota's defense stepped up with five sacks and two takeaways, including an Andrew Van Ginkel pick-six.
Nobody gave the Vikings a chance entering the season. It was only against the Giants, but Kevin O'Connell's team made a statement.
1. Detroit Lions (1-0)
It was hardly a vintage Lions performance, but they made big plays when they needed to, taking down the Matthew Stafford-led Los Angeles Rams in overtime.
The offense struggled to get out of first gear after taking a 17-3 lead, but they put their foot on the gas down the stretch to set up a game-tying field goal before making it look easy in overtime. The defense forced a turnover and restricted Los Angeles to 20 points, while Jameson Williams' breakout performance is a scary sign for the rest of the NFC.
The Lions are still the team to beat in the NFC North.
