Darnell Savage: Denver Broncos

I think Green Bay Packers fans have all come to the conclusion that things are simply not going to work out with Darnell Savage in Green Bay anymore. Savage was a first-round pick out of Maryland back in 2019, and the first couple of years of his NFL career were really promising.

He had six interceptions and 17 passes defensed in those two seasons, and was a heat-seeking missile all over the field. He quickly justified his first-round status for a really good Packers defense, but things went south seemingly as soon as Green Bay hired Joe Barry to run the defense.

Even though Barry could be gone in 2024, and the Packers could make a change at the defensive coordinator spot, I still think a separation is likely for Savage at this point. It's not impossible to think that he could take a prove-it deal in Green Bay under a new defensive coordinator and try to rehab his value, but there are plenty of coaching connections around the league that could interest Savage.

One particular coaching pairing that could be fascinating is in Denver, where Christian Parker is the defensive backs coach. Parker has been in Denver since 2021 when he joined Vic Fangio's staff, but he was in Green Bay for Savage's first two seasons as a Packer. Perhaps there's no coincidence that those were Savage's best years so far.

The Broncos could be looking for another starting safety with Caden Sterns dealing with injuries, and both PJ Locke and Kareem Jackson slated for free agency. Playing next to Justin Simmons could help reignite Savage's career, and he seems like a good fit for what Vance Joseph likes to do with his defensive backs.
